Origin of DJ Name:
The name WonderBread J originated in school, when his hip-hop loving group of friends, gave him the monicker. These friends began to jokingly call him "DJ Slice ..... of white bread" due to his inexperience as a DJ and his Caucasian persuasion. After a few months of improvement and a couple parties, one of these friends joked "WhiteBread, you are getting good enough that we should start calling you WonderBread"; it became a joke and the name stuck through college and the club scenes of DC, Oklahoma, Georgia, and now Okinawa; WonderBread J!
A Little About WBJ:
In his real life, WonderBread J is also Dr. Steven Jacobson, Clinical Psychologist working in Okinawa, Japan. Steven grew up in Northern Virginia (Washington, DC area) and graduated from Longwood College in Virginia in 1997 with his bachelor’s in Sociology and Master’s in Community Counseling in 1999. He earned his Doctorate in Counseling Psychology from Oklahoma State University (Go Cowboys) in 2006 and has a state license in Clinical Psychology in Georgia.
Throughout his 10 plus years in college, he worked as a DJ to suppliment his income and make ends meet. Steven has worked in several counseling jobs in the states mostly at Universities (Georgia Southern University, Arizona State University, Oklahoma State University) and at several DOD positions (Ft. Stewart, GA; Kadena AB, Okinawa; and Camp Butler, Okinawa). WBJ likes to dress up while DJing and will always be in a hat and sunglasses, partly because he is badass, but partly to avoid people who know him from his day job.
DJ Experience:
WonderBread J has 25 plus years of DJ experience, 20 plus years of large event experience, and over 20 years of club experience. He has DJ for over 130 weddings and has owned 3 very successful DJ companies (the most recent of which, at the time it was sold, employed 9 DJs, had 4 regular club contracts, had 3 school contracts, contracted for Student Events at a major university, and averaged about 40 private gigs a month).

Favorite Events to DJ:
WBJ loves anything that involves old-school music (80s, 90s, 2000s - hip-hop, R&B, pop, funk) and with a crowd that appreciates turntable maneuverers. He loves Latin and older dancehall reggae and will not hesitate to put on a long song and dance. He currently DJs a lot of contemporary Hip-Hop/R&B and Top 40 working regularly at clubs in Okinawa, so he is also very proficient in these genres. He also really enjoys leading parties for the kids; he is definitely not a DJ who is “too cool” to do the chicken dance and hokie-pokie!
